As a self confessed novice in the world of buying vintage/antique watches, wondering where to go looking and what to be on the lookout for can be an utter minefield. Recently, after having had a remarkable stroke of luck finding a 1957 Smiths Deluxe in wonderful condition, I was in dire need of another quality piece to satisfy the itch to own a little more “understated elegance”. So without any idea where I should be looking, I spotted a lovely image on the web – an Omega Silver Cross-Hair Seamaster with a gorgeous white enamel honeycomb face. It was love at first sight. I kept looking and even had a look at Ebay, but when I saw places of origin like the Far East and Europe I felt uneasy.
It was at this point I made contact with Guy at AVW, and I have to say how helpful he was. Information that I needed was openly exchanged and I was left with a feeling of confidence, there was no doubt in my mind that I could trust him. Further email communication was dealt with in a friendly manner and promptly too. Our deal was struck and honoured. My delightful timepiece arrived exactly on the day (actually very early which meant I spent the day in a very happy condition indeed). The watch was safely packaged in full working order in a smart little AVW box. It is a glorious bit of classic watch.
In a nutshell I will say the following: AVW is a great, legitimate little company, Guy and Cyril are honourable and trustworthy, I think I got great value and superb quality. The product was every bit as good as it looked on the website and the service first class. I would not hesitate to purchase from them again, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to purchase one of their watches; safe in the feeling that they would get the same standard of service and quality of product that I did. It is a tricky world out there on the net, but at AVW you are in very safe hands.
