About this watch

A splendid example of the classic Lemania military watch, one of the notable ‘Dirty Dozen’ models commissioned by the British Ministry of Defence during World War II.

Featuring a handsome black dial with sword hands, arabic numerals, a railroad minute track and the British military broad arrow, in line with the manufacturers name below the 12 ‘o’ clock mark, this watch encapsulates the bold, highly-functional simplicity of a military timepiece. Calibre 27A, it has a manual movement, is powered by a 15 jewel movement and measures 36.5 mm in diameter.

Produced to the same specification, the ‘Dirty Dozen’ watches are readily identified by the W.W.W on the back of the watch case. The three Ws – abbreviations for Watch, Wrist, Waterproof – identify the watches as government property, distinguishable to weaponry.

Fully serviced and regulated, this watch is in an original condition, and keeps very good time.

A little history: During the 1940s the British military developed a standard specification for military watches to be issued to the armed forces. They commissioned Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger Le Coultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor and Vertex to manufacture these. Of the 145,000 supplied to the British military Lemania supplied 10,000.
