About this watch

A gold-capped automatic-winding Omega Seamaster watch in very fine condition for its vintage. Almost 60 years old, this timepiece is essentially original, the only replacement being the Italian lizard strap and buckle – perfectly in keeping with the theme.

Note the original stamped dial plus the smooth-backed pre-1960 34mm case, predating the era of the deeply machined stylised seahorse logo. Inside is a calibre 501 movement; introduced in 1956, this was one of Omega’s first ever rotor-driven automatic movements used in men’s watches.

A little history: this watch dates back to the absolute heyday of the Omega Seamaster marque, launched a decade before in 1948 to celebrate the brand’s centenary. The Seamaster was essentially a civilian version of the pilot’s watch supplied by Omega to the RAF in 1945.
