About this watch
In an outstanding condition this Rolex Air-King 1973 is an exceptional find. Simplistic in design, this model is elevated by the lovely addition of an attractive blue linen dial, giving it a sophisticated steely edge over other Air King models. The dial has been handsomely offset by wide silver index markers, with the Rolex coronet at the 12 o’ clock mark, below which sits the model name and and the Oyster Perpetual signature. The ‘Precision’ quality mark can be seen above the 6 o’clock mark.
Reference number 5500, with automatic movement, the watch is housed in a 35 mm stainless steel Oyster case, complemented by a Rolex jubilee 7.8″ stainless steel bracelet.
A more affordable model, yet still of exceptional quality, this piece presents an excellent opportunity to buy a solid, classy Rolex towards the lower end of the Rolex pricing scale. It comes in its original Rolex box, along with the guarantee papers.
A little history:
The Air King Rolex was first introduced in 1957. It’s said that Rolex founder Hans Wildorf derived the name ‘Air King’ to honour British aviators after WWII — aviators having worn his watches during the conflict.
The Air King became an incredibly popular model and remained in production for 60 years.
