About this watch
A distinct-looking, seldom seen, Rolex Oyster 1951. This watch features a white dial with blue batons and raised, gilded, arabic gold hour markers, elegantly off-set by a stainless steel rivet bracelet with internal springs that allow for stretch.
Oyster brand markings can be found in several places on the watch: below the 12 ‘o’ clock mark; on the watch winder; on the inside back of the case; and on the mechanisms of the watch itself. On the crown, above the 6 ‘o’ clock mark, the watch is noted as being shock-resistant — this was one of the early shock-resistant Rolex models.
Reference 6082, it has a hand wound movement, is high-grade caliber 710 movement with 15 jewels.
Fully serviced and regulated, this classic, understated, Rolex watch is in an all-original condition and keeps very good time.
Further information:
The ‘Super Oyster’ crown (as referenced on the winder) was briefly introduced from 1951-1953. It was produced as an alternative water-resistant crown from that of the traditional screw-down version, launched by Rolex in 1926. However, in the longer term Rolex reverted back to their traditional screw-down, deciding that any benefits offered by the new version were outweighed by that of the old.
