About this watch
An urbane 1962 Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 1002 in wonderful condition and still keeping perfect time. In order to carry the four words ‘Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified’ on the untouched black dial, this exemplary timepiece underwent rigorous independent examination by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. Our only concession to modernity has been to replace the strap and buckle with a smart new black leather Rolex band.
Rolex invented the Oyster case back in 1926 to create the first fully waterproof wristwatch, the hermetic seal also protecting the high-precision movement from dust, pressure and shocks. Then in 1931 Rolex patented the ingenious Perpetual rotor: the world’s first self-winding watch mechanism. The two were combined in the Oyster Perpetual, an auspicious pairing that would forge the brand’s reputation for time-keeping excellence.
