About this watch
What could better epitomise mid-century luxury than this understated original 1961 gold Rolex? From the solid 9ct yellow gold 35mm case through the champagne dial with golden baton hands, polished bezel and signed crown, all is original to this unostentatiously divine vintage timepiece.
Inside, the automatic (Perpetual) self-winding mechanism features a calibre 1030 (Super Precision) movement pumping out 18,000 bph. Fully serviced and regulated, it is still reliably precise, running well and keeping excellent time. We’ve complemented it with new Rolex brown genuine strap.
A little history: 1961 was the year that the Beatles first performed in the Cavern Club, Barclays became Britain’s first bank with an in-house computing centre, Ian Fleming’s novel Thunderball was published, and Elvis’s ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight?’ hit no 1 in US charts. JFK was famously gifted a gold Rolex by Marilyn Monroe the following year (1962) – happy birthday, Mr President, indeed!
