About this watch
This all-original 1958 Tudor OysterDate ref. 7939 features waterproof oyster case, crown bearing Rolex logo, Tudor manually wound calibre 1156 movement, original cross-hair dial, applied steel triangular hour markers, steel dauphin hands, centre sweeping seconds and original date disc with alternating red / black numbers. The only replacement here is a new strap.
A little history: Tudor, a sister brand to Rolex, was launched by Hans Wilsdorf in 1949. Viewed historically as a more affordable alternative to Rolex, the marque still managed to exhibit the high quality expected of the original. Indeed, during the golden era when the Tudor Oyster-Prince was launched in 1952, the watch was seen as a direct parallel to the Rolex-branded Oyster Perpetual – even featuring that Rolex branding on the crown and case – and the two marques appeared alongside each other in advertising etc. However, compared with a Rolex Oyster Perpetual of the same vintage, this exemplary timepiece represents exceptional value.
